 Liupanshui, China, August 18, 2010 –Powerful Sam O'Dea and Ben O'Dea from New Zealand defeated Mahesh Perera M. Jude/Bombuwala Wasantha of Sri Lanka in straight sets to capture the men's crown at the 2010 AVC Beach Tour Liupanshui Open here on Wednesday.
The New Zealanders played a tough match against their rivals before the New Zealanders brushed off the crack rivals 21-16, 21-19 in 42 minutes.
A total of 20 men's squads from 11 countries and regions comprising Malaysia, Thailand, India, Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Sri Lanka and Iran pitted their expertise against one another in the three-day competition.
Sam O'Dea and Ben O'Dea, who won the men's title in the 2nd Khanom-Federbrau Asian Beach Volleyball in April in Thailand, experienced a hard way to enter the finals as they had to rally from the first down to defeat China's Lin Wuqin/Lu Zequan in the semifinal match 2-1 (22-24, 21-19, 15-9)in 49 minutes
The duo from Sri Lanka also had a tough run in the other semi-finals, where they managed to beat top seed Sittichai Sangkhachot/Teerapat Poliueang of Thailand 2-1(21-16, 15-21, 19-17) in a very tough match, lasting almost one hour, to enter the finals.
Lin Wuqin/Lu Zequan shaded Thailand 's Kittipat and Teerapat in a one-side third-place play-off, which they won 2-0 (21-16, 21-16).
