Liupanshui, China, August 17, 2010 – Host China, New Zealand, Thailand and Sri Lanka booked their semifinal berths on Tuesday when the players of the four countries defeated their opponents in the quarterfinals here at the men's tournament of the 2010 AVC Beach Tour China Liupanshui Open.
Top seed Sittichai Sangkhachot/Teerapat Poliueang of Thailand had little difficulty to outclass 8th seeded Poothathan Mohan/JPradeep John of India 2-0 (21-15, 21-18) in 37 minutes. The Indian duo finished top of Pool H after struggling to beat China's Gu Qing/Bao Qiuqi 2-1 (15-12, 7-15, 14-12) in 33 minutes to enter the quarterfinals.
The Thai duo will play against Mahesh Perera M. Jude/Bombuwala Wasantha of Sri Lanka, who edged Hong Kong's Lam wong Pui/Kwok Wing Ho 2-1 (13-15, 15-11, 11-5) in the morning to top Pool E and in the afternoon had to struggle to take one hour and seven minutes to defeat Australia's/Lyne Allister/Crook Aaron, the first placer of Pool D 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 15-7) to enter the top four.
The other semi-final clash on Wednesday sees Lin Wuqin/Lu Zequan of China play New Zealand's second seeded Sam O'Dea and Ben O'Dea. The O'Dea siblings, who won the men's title in the 2nd Khanom-Federbrau Asian Beach Volleyball in April in Thailand, took only 35 minutes to brush aside Iran's .Bahman Chollpory/M. Mehd 21-12, 21-18 in the quarter-finals, while 22nd seed Lin Wuqin and Lu Zequan used only 30 minutes to thrash Thailand's Niphon Nmnuan/Panupong Toyam, seeded 14 in the tournament, 2-0 (21-10, 21-16). |
