Liupanshui, China, August 16, 2010 –Players from Thailand and Kazakhstan stormed their ways into the second round of the 2010 AVC Beach Tour Liupanshui Open here on Monday after respectively crushing their pool rivals in the women's competition.
In Pool A, top seed formidable Jarunee Sannok and Usa Tenpaksee, fresh from clinching the crown at the Lumpum-hosted Asian Beach Volleyball Invitation in April in Thailand, spent only 29 minutes in breezing past host China's Li Dan/Lin Lingling 2-0 (15-8, 15-7) before thrashing Malaysian duo Luk Teck Hua/Beh Shun Thing also in straight set 15-11, 15-8 in 31 minutes. However, the Malaysian players earlier defeated Ng Tin Lai/Chan Mei Kit of Hong Kang 15-10, 15-13.
In Pool B which consists only three teams, 10th seed Inna Rakimatulina/Issayeva Lyudmila of Kazakhstan clinched their victory over Jessie Lee Jay See/Tan Chiew Lee 2-0 (15-10, 15-8). Yupa Phokongploy/Kamoltip-Kulna from Thailand, second seed of the tournament, who proved their class to clinch the gold medal at the last year's Vientiane-hosted South East Asian (SEA) Games in Laos and took the crown at the Khanom-Federbrau Asian Beach Volleyball Tour in April in Thailand, will play against the Kazakhstan and Malaysia teams.
Meanwhile, players from host China did not performed well as only one out of three duos grabbed the victory. Beside Li Dan/Lin Lingling lost to top seed in Pool A, . Wang Fei/Li Jiang took the first set but lost the next two and was beaten by Australian Rohkamper Alice/West Tara 1-2 (15-12,12-15, 12-14) in Pool D. The Aussie also had a mixed fate as they later lost to fourth seed Mashkova Tatyana/Tsimbalova Irina of Kazakhstan 1-2 (13-15, 15-6, 11-8) in 39 minutes.
In Pool C, Wang Tingting/Zhao Lidu brought home the only victoey for China in the first day of the tournament after crushing Tse Wing Hung/Kong Cheuk yee from Hong Kong 2-0 (15-11, 15-9) in 29 minutes.
The women's event will continue on Tuesday with pool matches. |
