With wins Friday over pairs from Switzerland and the United States, Juliana and Larissa from Brazil extended their winning streak to 20-straight matches as the top-seeded Brazilians will be playing Goller and Ludwigof Germany for the eighth time on the SWATCH FIVB World Tour after winning six of the previous seven meetings with the Germans.
After posting a 14-21, 21-16 and 15-11 win in 52 minutes over 14th-seeded Simone Kuhn and Nadine Zumkehr of Switzerland, Juliana and Larissa posted their 12th win in 16 matches with sixth-seeded Jen Kessy and April Ross of the United States 17-21, 21-19 and 15-8 in 58 minutes.
Goller and Ludwig defeated a pair of Brazilian teams to reach the semi-finals, including a 21-11 and 21-17 victory in 35 minutes over the eighth-seeded Salgado sisters (Carolina and Maria Clara) and a 21-15 and 21-16 win in 34 minutes over second-seeded Maria Antonelli and Talita Antunes.
After ousting fourth-seeded Nicole Branagh/Misty May-Treanor of the United States 22-20 and 21-19 in 47 minutes, Hansel and Montagnolli of Austria advanced to their third SWATCH FIVB World Tour by eliminating 10th-seeded compatriots Schwaiger sisters (Doris and Stefanie) 21-19 and 21-19 in 47 minutes.
Vivian and Cunha have now played nine matches since Monday as the Brazilians earned their first ever SWATCH FIVB World Tour semi-final appearance by defeating 23rd-seeded Elsa Baquerizo/Liliana Fernandez Steiner of Spain 21-16 and 21-12 in 40 minutes and 18th-seeded Cristine "Saka" Santanna/Andrezza "Rtvelo" Martins of Georgia 14-21, 21-18 and 15-7 in 48 minutes. |
