FIVB Board confirms new election regulations

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, April 15, 2010 – The FIVB Board of Administration approved new transparent and democratic election regulations for the 2012 Congress on day two of its annual meeting being held in the Dominican Republic resort town of Punta Cana.

Having been appointed FIVB President in 2008, Mr. Jizhong Wei has made clear that he will stand down from the position in 2012. Therefore, looking ahead to this important moment for the FIVB, the Board of Administration approved the following key changes:

FIVB elections are to take place during the same year as the Summer Olympic Games.

FIVB Confederations are to elect their board members via the General Assembly.

The Continental quota inside the FIVB Executive Committee with no less than two persons per Confederation.

All changes require approval by the 2010 FIVB Congress when it meets in Rome, Italy from September 9-10.

"This will be a democratic election for the first time in a long time," FIVB President Jizhong Wei said." I have advocated transparency and fairness throughout the FIVB's operations and the election in 2012 will be no different."

Meanwhile, the Board of Administration approved the decision to propose to the World Congress to delete the code of conduct and draft a code of ethics in compliance with IOC ethics laws. During the transfer period, the FIVB will use the IOC Code of Ethics.

In other decisions in the morning session, new Financial Regulations were approved, streamlining the regulations across all of FIVB properties and the Board approved for a new steering committee to analyse any proposals coming from Confederations for assistance from the FIVB Development Fund.
