FIVB Holds Mass Volleyball Seminar in Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand, October 31, 2009 -- The FIVB, in close cooperation with the AVC, helds a special Mass Volleyball Seminar in Bangkok, Thailand on October 24-25 that was attended by AVC officials and representatives from the five Asian Zones.

The meeting, chaired by FIVB Executive Vice President and Development Commission President Vicente Araujo and supported by FIVB Technical & Development Director Helgi Thorsteinsson, was aimed at providing direct discussions on the importance of Mass Volleyball development activities in Asia and the promotion of the sport among younger generations.

In addition to discussions on ways to promote Volleyball and implement Mass Volleyball events, talks also centered around the latest FIVB property: the Beach Volleyball World Cup, which all National Federations have been asked to participate in from 2010.

Mr. Araujo expressed his pleasure with the outcome of the meetings, which he described as beneficial to the development and progress of the sport in Asia.

"In line with FIVB policy, we encouraged the National Federations in Asia to become more involved with the planning and implementation of grassroots strategies aimed at bringing more young people to the game, and we were very pleased with the positive responses we received,"Araujo said.
