AVC's donations to typhoon victims in Philippines

Manila, Philippines, October 5, 2009 – The Control Committee of the 15th Asian Men’s Senior Volleyball Championship appealed all the delegations attending this event to actively extend donations to typhoons hit the Philippines recently.

Mr. Yim Hyung Bin, CC Chairman and AVC Zonal Executive Vice president, said in his letter to the delegations “On behalf of the Asian Volleyball Confederation, the Control Committee is seeking your cooperation in supporting the people of the Philippines.”

The two Typhoons hit the country in a week caused huge damages to the Island country. According to the official figures, the typhoons took the lives of some 300 Philippine civilians and caused huge damages to agricultural properties and infrastructure up to now.

Philippines President Mrs. Arroyo has placed the entire country under a state of calamity to expedite relief efforts for people affected by the typhoons.

"In order to extend our sympathy to the typhoons victims and share the difficulties, I kindly ask each delegation to please seek donations from your members to assist the disaster victims,” said the AVC CC Chairman.
