Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, May 12, 2009 – FIVB president Jizhong Wei briefed his former AVC colleagues the reforms he and FIVB have made recently and expressed his belief that with the support from AVC and the other Continental Confederations, "We will achieve our goals."

Speaking at the meeting, the FIVB President, who was invited to attend the 29th AVC B/A meeting held here today, stressed that former FIVB President and his wife Malu worked very hard for the development of Volleyball and devoted nearly their whole life to Volleyball, which we appreciated very much.

"However, during the rapid development of FIVB, we also have some problems which were covered by our achievements. I have to say I am also responsible for these mistakes as I did not mention them when I discovered the mistakes. Now we have to correct them," the president noted.

Mr. Wei listed the main problems as power concentration on one person; no sufficient democracy, supervision and openness; paying too much attention to benefits; not giving enough attention to the Continental Confederation, and FIVB relations with outside not good.

In order to take FIVB and World Volleyball to a higher level, FIVB President Wei told the meeting that "I have made five promises."

"I will never seek reelection and after my four years term we will hold democratic election for the FIVB next President."

"I will not touch even one cent of the commissions. What I am doing is my obligations.

"We will insist transprancy, democracy and delegation of duties to Continental Confederation and assist them. Only with this way, the power of FIVB President will be shared. This year we decided that all the preliminary rounds of the 2010 World Championships are organized by Continental Confederations with the help from FIVB. And also FIVB gives them the right to handle the transfer of players in their own continents.

"We will change the fact that the National Federations are put before the Continental Confederation. We must put Continental Confederation before NFs.

I will work hard for mass volley and try utmost to help less developed National Federations. FIVB has decided to double financial assistance to Continental Confederations, starting from this year and will increase the assistance again next year. As FIVB President, I will attend some activities of Continental Confederations and National Federations."

Mr. Wei said that "FIVB and its department must serve NFs and not to command them"

Though, "We will still encounter some problems during the period of reforms but with the support and help from the Volleyball Family and the Continental Confederations and national federations, I am confident we will succeed and achieve our goals," the FIVB President concluded.
