Dr. Saleh Bin Nasser Becomes AVC New President

Beijing, China, November 3, 2008 – The Executive Committee of the Asian Vollayball Confederation agreed unanimouly at the meeting here on Monday to nominate Dr. Saleh Bin Nasser, the AVC First Executive Vice-President as the AVC new President after Mr. Wei Jizhong's resignination.

FIVB President Wei Jizhong who was present at the meeting told the meeting that after his election to the FIVB President he must resign his AVC presidency, and in accordance with AVC Charter, the AVC First Executive Vice-President is to take over the presidency.

The AVC E/C members present all accepted Mr.Wei's proposal to become AVC new President. And the meeting also accepted Dr. Nasser's proposal to name Dr. Sivanthi Adityan, the AVC Executive Vice-President for AVC Central Zone, as the AVC First Executivce Vice-President.

Dr.Nasser expressed his appreciation to FIVB President for his great job in AVC, saying "AVC, ubder the leadership of Mr.Wei, has been making rapid progress and as a result, the Volleyball in Asia has also been getting great development. AVC is an institution with solidarity of Volleyball family. AVC can be sure that We will follow Mr.Wei's planns and his model of work and respect all the areas he grounded. I will continue the march Mr.Wei initiated and try my best to make AVC stronger and the sport of Volleyball more progress and development."

The AVC new president added "With the support and effort from AVC E/C, B/A, NFs and others, we'll continue our work more efficiently and we will be better and better."

Dr. Nasser told FIVB President that "We AVC will do our best to support FIVB and Mr.Wei and maintain solitarity with FIVB. At the same time, we also need your help and suggestions in future."

FIVB President Wei Jizhong told the meeting that he will not seek any reelection after his term expires in 2011 when there will be free election for FIVB President. He stressed transparency and openness in FIVB, saying "He will put everything on the table and keep FIVB E/C everything informed."

Mr. Wei said that he will not change the orientation of FIVB which is approved by FIVB Congress, but I will introduce many improvement in FIVB affairs. He expressed his hope that FIVB will pay more attention to Volleyball for all, not only to top teams and players as before.
