Ningbo, China, August 29 -- Brazil eased past China 25-12, 25-16, 25-15 on Sunday in the last match of the FIVB World Grand Prix finals at Ningbo Beilun Sports and Arts Center.

But despite the stylish victory, Brazil's dream of wining three champions in a row was dashed as they finished the six-team round-robin tournament with a 3-2 win-loss record, behind top-ranked United States, who had a perfect run. China were fourth with a 2-3 win-loss record.

"Brazil lived up to their billing of world champions, and they are better than us in almost every aspect," said Wang Baoquan, head coach of China.

"We need to make a lot of improvement in future. Setter Wei Qiuyue missed the game due to appendicitis, her absence had a great impact on our team," said Wang.

Facing Brazil's high-flying spikings, the Chinese team could not organize attacking effectively due to their poor serve reception and weaker blocking on the net.

Trailing by 10-4, China coach Wang brought in Fan Linlin, who immediately hit two spikes to spark a 4-0 run for China. However, as China continued to make errors in defence under pressure, the Brazilians didn't take long to pull away again and wrap up the set 25-12.

Brazil's hard-hitters proved too much for the Chinese players. When Brazil were 23-16 in front in the second set, two spiking points from substitute Joyce Silva finished off the set.

The Brazilians were still on fire in the third set, with Natalia Pereira and Jaqueline Carvalho hitting relentless at the net and ran away with the third set 25-15 and the match.

Sheilla Castro, Pereira, Carvalho and Thaisa Menezes each scored 11 points to lead the game, while there is no Chinese player can score more than 10 points.

"We did well in blocking, counter-attack, defence and serving, which contributed to a good game," said Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes.

Early on Sunday, the United States whitewashed Japan 3-0 to claim the title of the Grand Prix final.
