Lausanne, Switzerland, March 2, 2010 – The FIVB Sports Events Council held its first meeting of 2010 on Tuesday with the evaluation of the host candidate files for the FIVB Men's Junior, Women's Junior, Boy's Youth and Girl's Youth World Championships in 2011 the main point on the agenda.

The Council, who also received reports on recent inspection visits to Japan for the FIVB 2010 Women's World Championship and Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, will make a recommendation to the Board of Administration, which meets in April, as to which candidate is best suited for each competition.

Brazil and Iran are in contention to host the FIVB Men's Junior World Championships, whilst Peru is the sole candidate for the women's version. Meanwhile, Turkey, Vietnam and Mexico, who also hosted the 2009 FIVB Women's Junior World Championship, are contending to host the FIVB Girl's Youth World Championship, whilst Egypt is the only candidate for the boy's event.

"We want to make sure we are making the best decision for each tournament," President of the Sports Events Council Mr. Theofanis Tsiokris said. "It is important that every FIVB competition is conducted with the right balance between professionalism and passion for the sport, and this obviously takes into account our recent inspections of the venues."

"It is up to us to make sure that all the necessary requirements for a successful tournament are there in any candidature file," Mr. Tsiokris added. "We want to create the best experience for everybody, and that begins with the right venue."

The FIVB 2010 World Championships is due to begin on September 24 with the men's competition in Italy, before moving on to Japan on October 29 for the women's edition.

The FIVB will make an inspection visit to Italy for the FIVB 2010 Men's World Championship later this month.
