Colombo, Sri Lanka, October 6, 2008 – Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation announced that Sri Lanka is to host the 7th Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championship, which will be the most team participating volleyball tournament held in Sri Lanka and it is also the Asian qualification tournament for the World Youth Boys’ Villeyball Championship to be held in 2009.
The tournament is scheduled to be held from 14th – 22nd October 2008 and the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation is conducting the above Championship in conjunction with the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). There are 46 matches contesting for this tournament.
The 7th Asian Youth Boys Volleyball Championship is a mega event where 11 teams including Sri Lanka are going to compete for supremacy in a real sporting spirit. It will be like a mini South Asian Games (SAG).Participating teams are from Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Australia, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Kuwait and Sri Lanka.
As organizers, the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation has unanimously decided to have a colorful Opening Ceremony and a Grand Finale as per the AVC Constitution. Moreover, an unique Games Logo and Mascot together with a special web site are arranged for this particular event.
The Launching of the Games Logo and Mascot is scheduled to take place on the 1st October 2008 at 6.30 pm at the Kat’s Eye Ballroom of the Ceylon continental Hotel where as the Opening Ceremony will be on 14th October 2008 at 10.00 am, the Sugathadasa Stadium. Rathnasiri Wickramanayaka, the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri lanka and Gamini Lokuge, Minister of Sports and Public Recreation are expected to participate the opening ceremony. |
