Lausanne, September 23, 2008 – The FIVB Sports Events Council has agreed that starting from 2009 there will be a minimum of two vacancies per continent in each category of the Junior and Youth Volleyball World Championships.
The remaining vacancies are to be distributed in accordance with the number of teams from each continental confederation registered for the event, the rank of the registered national teams and continental confederation activities. The host country of the World Championship should be included in the number of vacancies allocated to a continent.
The 2009 Men’s Junior World Championship will have two vacancies for Africa, three for Asia, six for Europe, three for Norceca and two for South America.
The 2009 Women’s Junior World Championship will include one country from Africa (only one team has registered), three from Asia, six from Europe, four from Norceca and two from South America.
The 2009 Boys’ Youth World Championship will be made up of three slots for Africa, two for Asia, six for Europe, two for Norceca and two for South America.
The 2009 Girl’s Youth World Championship will include two places for Africa, three for Asia, six for Europe, three for Norceca and two for South America.
In the 2007 Junior and Youth World Championships, Brazil won both the Women’s and Men’s events in Thailand and Morocco, respectively, while in Mexico the Chinese won the Girls’ Youth and Iran the Boys’ Youth events. |
