Beijing, China, May 10, 2008 – The AVC B/A meeting has decided that the Philippines and Sri Lanka to host the 7th Asian Youth Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball Championships respectively.
The Asian Youth Girls’ Volleyball Championships is to be held from October 11-18 in Manila of the Philippines while the Boy’s edition to be hosted By Sri Lanka from October 14-21 in Colombo.
The two events are also served as the Qualification Tournaments for the 2009 World Youth Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball Championships.
The AVC conducted the drawing of lots for the two Asian events recently in Beijing.
Participating in the Asian Girls’ Volleyball Championship are 13 teams, which are divided into four groups for the preliminary round, followed by classification round while a total of 12 teams will compete in two groups with the top four entering the quarter-finals and the fifth and sixth finishers in the groups to playoff for 9th to 12th.
Following are the groupings of the two events:
Asian Youth Girls’ Volleyball Championships
Group A: Philippines, Sri Lanka, Australia
Group B: Japan, India, Indonesia
Group C: Korea, Thailand, Maldives
Group D: China, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Kazakhstan
Asian Youth Boys’ Volleyball Championships
Group A: Sri Lanka, China, Chinese Taipei, Maldives, Indonesia, Australia
Group B: Iran, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Kuwait. |
