Chinese Taipei to Host Asian Junior Women's Championship

Beijing, China, May 9, 2008 -- The 14th Asian Junior Women's Volleyball Championship, which also doubles as the qualifying tournament for the next year's World Women's Junior Volleyball Championship, will be held in Taipei from September 20 to 28.

The Asian Junior Women Championship kicks off on September 20 with a total of 11 teams vying for the top honour and the tickets to the world meet. The drawing of lots were held recently in Beijing.

The participating teams in the Asian Women’s Junior Championship are drawn into two pools with hosts Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Australia, Indonesia in Pool A and China, Japan, Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand and Korea in Pool B.

After the group round-robin preliminaries, the quarter-finals will take place on September 26 and the semi-finals on September 27. The finals will be held on September 28.

China, Japan and Thailand finished the top three at the last edition held in Thailand in October of 2006.

Pool A: TPE vs. KAZ, INA vs. AUS, THA bye

Pool B: CHN vs. JPN, SRI vs. KOR, IND vs. NZL

Day two

Pool A: KAZ bye, THA vs. AUS, INA vs. TPE

Pool B: JPN vs. KOR, CHN vs. NZL, SRI vs. IND

Day three

Pool A: AUS bye, KAZ vs. INA, THA vs. TPE

Pool B: NZL vs. JPN, KOR vs. IND, CHN vs. SRI

Day four

Pool A: INA bye, AUS vs. TPE, KAZ vs. THA

Pool B: JPN vs. IND, NZL vs. SRI, KOR vs. CHN

Day five

Pool A: TPE bye, INA vs. THA, AUS vs. KAZ

Pool B: SRI vs. JPN, IND vs. CHN, NZL vs. KOR
