Drawing of Lots for Asian Club Volleyball Championships

Beijing, China, May 9 , 2008 – The drawing of lots for the 2008 Asian Women’s and Men’s Club Volleyball Championships were held here on May 5, one day after the AVC B/A meeting, under the chairman of AVC Sports Event Council Mr. Shanrit Wongprasert.

The Asian Women’s Club Championship is scheduled to be held in Vinh Phuc of Vietnam from June 1 to 8. Taking part in the eight-day tournament are eight club teams from host Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Peoples Republic of Korea, Thailand, Japan, China, Indonesia and Iran.

Host Vietnam leads Group A and will play against Peoples Republic of Korea and Iran while defending Champion is drawn into Group B with China, Thailand and Indonesia.

The eight teams will play against each other in the group preliminary round from June 1 to 3, to decide the rankings in their respective groups. After one day rest, the quarterfinals will be hled on June 5, and the semifinals on June 6 and the finals on June 7.

The Asian Men’s Club Championship will be hosted by Kazakhstan from July 17-24 in Almaty. A total of nine teams have entered the tournament.

The nine teams are divided into two groups. Kazakhstan, Bahrain, Japan and Kuwait are drawn into Group A while Iran will meet Qatar, China, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia in Group B.

After the preliminary round, the top two teams will enter the medal round in semifinals, with the two simis winners to vie for the gold medal. The third and fourth finishers in the two groups will play for the fifth to eighth.

The groupings are as follows:

Women:

Group A: Vietnam, Peoples Republic of Korea, Japan, Iran

Group B: Kazakhstan, Thailand, China, Indonesia

Men:

Group A: Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Japan, Kuwait

Group B: UAE, Qatar, China, Indonesia, Iran
