Brazilian, German, Spanish & U.S. at SWATCH World Chs.

Stavanger, Norway, July 3, 2009 – Three men's teams from Brazil, two each from Germany and the United States along with a team from Spain all captured second round victories here Friday to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals at the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championships presented by ConocoPhillips being held on the dockside courts on Vaagen Harbour.

Top-seeded Alison Cerutti and Harley Marques of Brazi scored a 21-17 and 21-12 win in 41 minutes over 24th-seeded Florian Gosch and Alexander Horst of Austria.

Second-seeded Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers of the United States won their second elimination match with a 21-11 and 21-11 victory in 34 minutes over 31st-seeded Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Ruslans Sorokins of Latvia.

Fifth-seeded Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos of Brazil eliminated 11th-seeded brothers Andy and Kevin Ces of France with a 26-24 and 21-13 win in 44 minutes.

Tenth-seeded Marcio Araujo and Fabio Magalhaes posted a 21-18 and 24-22 win in 55 minutes over 28th-seeded Sascha Heyer and Patrick Heuscher of Switzerland to earn another elite-eight spot in these world championships.

17th-seeded Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings of the United States continued their impressive run at these world championships with a 21-10 and 21-13 win in 36 minutes of Canada's 37th-seeded Christian Redmann and Rich VanHuizen.

Germany's two teams advancing were third-seeded Julius Brink and Jonas Reckermann who eliminated 23rd-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal of the United States 21-18 and 21-16 in 47 minutes and sixth-seeded Eric Koreng/David Klemperer who earned a 21-12 and 21-18 victory in 37 minutes over Estonia's 16th-seeded Kristjan Kais and Rivo Vesik.

Spain earned a quarterfinal spot when 15th-seeded Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira Collado defeated New Zealand's 26th-seeded Jason Lochhead/Kirk Pitman 21-11 and 21-12 in 36 minutes.

In Saturday's quarterfinal matchups, Brazil's Harley and Alison will meet USA's Fuerbringer and Jennings, Germany's Klemperer and Koreng will play Brazil's Marcio Araujo and Fabio, Germany's Brink and Reckermann will go up against Brazil's Ricardo and Emanuel and Spain's Herrera and Gavira will challenge USA's Rogers and Dalhausser.
