Stavanger, Norway, June 29, 2009 - The first two rounds of men's pool play at the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championships have been completed with 12 matches being played here Monday on the Vaagen Harbour dockside courts.

With three former world championship teams in the field for the US$1-million event, all three pairs have won their opening two play matches as the tandems of Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers (2007) and Marcio Araujo/Fabio Magalhaes (2005) joined Emanuel Rego/Ricardo Santos (2003) in posting perfect pool performances so far.

Seeded second in the 48-team competition, Dalhausser and Rogers scored a 21-14, 16-21 and 15-8 win in 52 minutes over 23rd-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal in an All-American Vaagen Harbour centre court confrontation.

The 10th-seeded Marcio Araujo and Fabio and 15th-seeded Adrian Gavira Collado and Pablo Herrera of Spain are both 2-0 in Pool J after posting wins Monday over pairs from Switzerland and Kazakhstan, respectively.

Emanuel and Ricardo scored their second win of the 2009 SWATCH FIVB World Championships Sunday as the fifth-seeded Brazilians conclude pool play Tuesday against 20th-seeded Penggen Wu and Rui Yin of China in the first SWATCH FIVB World Tour match up between the two teams.

Casey Jennings, the husband of two-time Olympic and three-time world champion Kerri Walsh, and Matt Fuerbringer gained control of Pool H as the 17th-seeded Americans scored a win over a team from Austria Monday while eighth-seeded Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil of the Netherlands dropped a 21-19, 14-21 and 15-12 decision in 53 minutes to 32nd-seeded Paolo Nicolai and Matteo Varnier of Italy.

Olympians Sascha Heyer and Patrick Heuscher posted their second seed-break-through in the Pool D competition as the 28th-seeded Swiss pair scored a 21-14 and 23-21 win in 41 minutes over the fourth-seeded Brazilian Pedros (Cunha and Salgado).

Sixth-seeded David Klemperer and Eric Koreng of Germany are the top team in Pool F after defeating 30th-seeded Inocencio Lario and Raul Mesa of Spain 21-15 and 21-13 in 40 minutes. Christian Redmann and Rich VanHuizen posted their second-straight upset to gain the Pool L lead as the 37th-seeded Canadians netted a 21-15 and 21-18 win in 37 minutes over 13th-seeded Tarjei Skarlund and Martin Spinnangr of Norway.
