
Beijing, China, May 7, 2008 --The 28th Confederation of Asia Volleyball (AVC) Board of Administration, meeting recently held here, expressed their satisfaction with the performance AVC did last year and decided to take measures to further develop volleyball and beach volleyball in Asia.
The AVC B/A meeting heard the report from AVC President, reports of five zonal Vice-Presidents, reports from T/C chairmen and Press Officer, and had detailed discussion.
The meeting reviewed the progress in the sport in the past year, especially in the field of Junior and Youth competitions as Asian teams achieved very good results.: Iran and China finished top two at World Youth Boys Championship and China won the gold at World Youth Girl edition while China and Japan place second and third at World Women’s Junior Championship and Iran was third at Men’s edition.
AVC President Wei Jizhong said that Beach Volleyball is always our target in AVC Stragyty. Mrs Rita Sobowo, Chairman of AVC Beach Volleyball Council, told the meeting “It is most rewarding to see that Beach Volleyball in being played in more regional events and Asian teams continues to improve in world stage.” AVC B/A decided that AVC will increase the financial support to Beach Volleyball from the year of 2008.
More and more AVC members not only actively participated in the AVC events, but also willing to organize AVC and Other international events. The meeting considered that this is a active sign showing that Volleyball and Beach Volleyball are developing smoothly.
Mr. Wei said the FIVB Development centers in Asia performed very well and received high notes from FIVB. The AVC Board meeting decided that AVC give more financial and material support to the centers.
The meeting called all the AVC members to attend the the 31th FIVB World Congress to be held in June in Dubai of UAE so as to show AVC’s strong support to FIVB and make contribution to the successful holding of the important FIVB World Congress. The AVC B/A meeting also requested AVC NFS to participate in the Qualification Tournaments for 2010 World Championships.
The AVC B/A meeting also expressed their firm support to 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and rejected any attempt to boycott the Olympic Games.
The meeting also noticed that volleyball in Asia is still developing not fast enough and immediate and urgent task facing AVC is to raise Asian volleyball level, mainly the senior teams. To organize high level competition is one of the effective way to raise the level, so the "Asian Cup for Men" and "Asian Cup for Women" in which the top eight teams are to take part, are to be held from 2008. Besides FIVB is also wishing to help AVC with coaches. |
