Jakarta, Indonesia, September 1, 2007 – The 17th General Assembly of Asia Volleyball Confederation (AVC), which was held in Jakarta of Indonesia on August 31, agreed unanimously that AVC should give first priority to the development and promotion of Asian Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in the coming years.

During the one-day meeting, delegates from AVC National Federations heard reports from five AVC zonal Vice-President and chairmen of Technical Committees and expressed their satisfaction with the achievements AVC had in the past two years.

The AVC general Assembly pointed out that the main mission of AVC is to carry all the programs and decisions of FIVB so as to enable Asian Volleyball to popularize further, make AVC NFs more active and AVC firmly to unite more close.

The meeting stressed that AVC is always safeguarding FIVB world authority and unity and fully supporting FIVB and its President Dr. Ruben Acosta. AVC General Assembly strongly requests all its members be very vigilant against those who try to destabilizing FIVB solidarity.

Delegates in their remarks also agreed that Asian Volleyball in the past two years, in general, is developing fast and the level of Asian Volleyball, especially the youth and juniors, is high but comparing with Europe and Americas, AVC can not be contend with the results already achieved. There are still great gap between the Asian teams and the world strong teams, both for men and women, especially in the senior category, AVC must double their efforts to promote Volleyball and Beach Volleyball more vigorously. In order to achieve the aim, the meeting decided:

To create a high-level new competition event, namely "Asian Cup for men and women". The top eight teams will participate in the events which will be held in even years, one year after another Asian high level competition events "Asian Senior Volleyball Championships" held in odd years.

To request AVC National Federations, especially those who are less active, to organize their own domestic competitions, no matter big or small, as only by hosting competitions, can the Volleyball sport develop gradually.

As the AVC financial situation is getting better and better, AVC will allocate more funds to help and support those NFs who really need assistance.

Beach Volleyball is developing very fast in Asia, with China, Australia and Japan in the leading position, However, the development is not balanced. In order to promote Beach Volleyball, AVC General Assembly decided to study the possibility of establishing an Asian Beach Volleyball Training Center, and also the creating of an Asian Beach Volleyball Ranking system.

The meeting also asked AVC Sports Event Council to study the possibility to hold height-limited competitions in Asia, especially for women, "as the competition is very practical and suitable for Asia".

The General Assembly approved the proposals of AVC Executive Committee to name three new AVC Board of Administration members. The new B/A members are Mr. Shanrit Wongprasert from Thailand(AVC SEC Chairman and FIVB B/A member, Mr. Davarzani from Iran (President of the Iranian Volleyball Association) and Alice Fong of Macao, replaced outgoing members Mr. Kraison Chansiri of Thailand, Yazidani Khorram of Iran and Mr. Pau Ma Chong of Macao who resigned their positions due to various reasons.
