Guangzhou, China, May 16, 2005 – The 25th AVC Executive Committee and Board of Administration meeting was held in Guangzhou of Southern China from May 14-15 and made important decisions after warm discussion on issues concerning the development of Asian Volleyball, especially matters about the coming AVC General Assembly.
AVC President Wei Jizhong explained in detail the principles AVC must follow in the election of AVC new leadership, which were unanimously approved by AVC B/A meeting.
The President said that "The 16th AVC general Assembly will be of great consequence with election of AVC leadership and the choice of members of all AVC technical committees. We must elect a new, energetic and capable leadership so as to chart the future of AVC Volleyball in the next four years."
Mr. Wei stressed that "We must maintain the stability of leadership and continuity of policies. We of course welcome new generations to join our leadership, and we should help them and transfer knowledge and experience to them, but in the meantime they must also prove themselves, they should be trained and to be prepared step by step"
The other important principles are AVC will reach consensus through consultations, not through fighting and bargaining, we must also show solidarity and team spirit in the elections, added the AVC President.
The AVC B/A meeting reached agreement that in order to further raise the level of Asian Volleyball, AVC should double its efforts and take effective measures to encourage AVC members and make more AVC participation in the FIVB competitions and also AVC events as this is the best way to raise the level of Asian Volleyball on the whole.
AVC B/A meeting expressed its appreciations to FIVB for its approval of the fourth FIVB Development Center in Asia, which will be set up in Indonesia. Asian already has three FIVB Development Centers in Thailand, India and Bahrain. The meeting wished that the development centers will not concentrate only on management and coaching matters, and they should pay attention to the training of players in their programmes. |
